Tons
of Fun In January!
Celebrate
the New Year with these wacky
January holidays!

Fun & Fast Activities for You and Your Little Ones
Get out your
calendar and a nice bold pen and make note of these
fun activities
to do with your kids! Each one is a
memory
in the making!
National Hobby
Month
* Take this opportunity to find a new hobby! Paint
ceramics, assemble model airplanes or ships.
* Start a neighborhood or a family hobby club. Have weekly
or monthly meetings to discuss and enjoy your club's hobby.
Universal
Letter-Writing Week
(Jan. 1-7)
* Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.
* Write a letter to the President! Tell him whether or not
you think he's doing a good job, and what he could do
differently.
* Create a bedroom mailbox to receive inter-house letters
and memos! Simply attach a large manila envelope to your
bedroom door, using a thumbtack. With another thumbtack,
attach a small notepad with a pencil stored inside the
coils.
Organize
Your Home Day
(Jan. 6)
* Little ones can be a big help on this day. Tie a rope to a
large toy tub. Have your children pull the tub around the
house, collecting misplaced toys and other items along the
way.
* Place a plastic ice cube tray inside your
kitchen’s “junk” drawer. Use the tray to store those
tiny items that always get lost: safety pins, thumbtacks,
rubber bands, etc.
* Visit the Organized Times website for more ways to
celebrate this day.

National
Pizza Week
(Jan. 6-12)
* Invite friends over for a pizza-making party! Provide
ready-made pizza crusts and lots of yummy toppings to choose
from.
* Make your own pizza rolls! Use canned biscuits for this
recipe: Flatten a biscuit and fill with your favorite pizza
toppings. Close the biscuit and bake according to the
instructions on the can.
Family
Communications Day
(Jan. 9)
* Grab the camcorder and send a video message to family
members who live far away. Fill them in on the latest
happenings at your house.
* Purchase pre-paid phone cards and send them to family
members with a note to keep in touch.
Hat Day
(Jan. 17)
* Visit a resale shop to find a few crazy, funky hats to
wear.
* Decorate a big box to store all of your funky hats. On
days when you're feeling blue, where a funky hat to cheer
yourself up.
Edgar
Allan Poe's Birthday
(Jan. 19, 1809)
* Have a sleepover party and tell scary stories--read a
classic Poe tale to get things spooky.
* Make Edgar Allan Poe-boy sandwiches to feed your party
guests.
National
Hugging Day
(Jan. 21)
* Make a sign to display in a car window or in a window of
your home, that reads "Hugs Are Free! Hug Someone
Today!"
* Follow your own advice and pass out free hugs!
National
Pie Day
(Jan. 23)
* Attend or participate in a pie-eating contest!
* Make yummy no-bake fruit pies. Fill a pie tin with
whipped cream, then top it off with a layer of thinly
sliced bananas, strawberries, kiwi or apples.
National
Popcorn Day
(Super Bowl Sunday, Jan. 26)
Make a variety of flavored popcorn for your Super Bowl
celebration:
* Prepare one batch with melted butter, and then sprinkle on
cinnamon and sugar.
* Make another batch with melted butter, parmesan cheese and
garlic.
