Tons
of Fun In November!
There’s
more fun to gobble up in November
than just turkey day!

Get out your
calendar and a nice bold pen and make note of these
fun activities
to do with your kids in honor of July! Each one is a
memory
in the making!
Peanut
Butter Lover's Month
* Eat more peanut butter! It tastes great on sandwiches,
carrots, and celery...and cookies...peanut butter ice cream
floats.... You get the idea.
* Have a contest saying tongue twisters, while eating a
spoonful of peanut butter.
National
Authors Day (Nov.
1)
* Write a fan letter to your favorite author.
* Write a story as a family, one sentence at a time.
Designate someone to write down the story. The first person
says a sentence; then the next person adds a sentence to the
first, and so on until the story is complete.
* Visit a local library and discover a book by a new author.
Election
Day (Nov. 5)
* Research the candidates and have a family voting session
at home.
* Have a contest to see who can list the most U.S.
Presidents in 5 minutes!
Veterans
Day (Nov. 11)
* Visit a war memorial together.
* Attend a Veterans Day parade.
* Interview a family member who served our country.
Clean
Out Your Refrigerator Day
(Nov. 20)
* Throw out old science experiments and old food that could
pass for a science experiment.
* Use this day as an excuse to be a creative cook. First
throw away the food that is spoiled, then find fun recipes
to make with the remaining leftovers.
* Decorate the refrigerator with cool new magnets. Buy
business card magnets from an office supply store, and cut
them into thirds. Attach stickers, sequins, googly eyes and
other small items to the sticky sides of the magnets.
National
Children’s Book Week
(Nov. 18-24)
* Make time each day to spend with a favorite book.
* Help your child write and illustrate a book. As with all
writers, write what you know: “In My Yard”; “The Story
of My School”; “My Dog’s Name and How He Got It”;
“Why I Think My Brother Smells.” Staple the pages
together into a book.
* Visit a local library and apply for a library card!
National
Family Volunteer Day
(Nov. 23)
* Help out at a nursing home or sign up to be a candy
striper at a hospital.
* If your school or church participates in the Adopt a
Highway or Adopt a Block program, offer your time to help
clean up.
National
Game and Puzzle Week
(Nov. 24-30)
* Make cereal box puzzles! Cut out the back panel of your
favorite cereal box (wait until it’s empty!). Then, cut
the panel into interlocking puzzle pieces. Store the pieces
in a re-sealable bag to keep them together.
* Play a different board game each night of the week. Draw
names to see who gets to choose first.
* Have a suitcase relay race! Divide a group into 2
teams. Part of the team stands at one end of the
relay, while the other part of the same team stands at the
other end. Fill 2 suitcases with grown-up sized clothing
such as shoes, shirts, hats, belts, pants, etc. Players must
get fully dressed (game clothes on top of regular clothes),
then race the suitcase to their waiting partners. Then they
must undress, place all of the clothing back into the
suitcase, so that their partner may do the same. The first
team to dress and undress completely wins!
Thanksgiving
(Nov. 28)
* Decorate gourds with glue, glitter, googly eyes, and
other accessories. Make faces on the gourds or pretty
designs.
* Make a thankful chain: Cut out leaf shapes from
construction paper. Each person writes down things they are
thankful for. Scatter the leaves on the dinner table, or
string them together with yarn and hand across a wall.
* Make greeting cards for people you are thankful for.
Hanukkah
(Nov. 29-Dec. 6)
* Design your own wrapping paper for Hanukkah gifts. Use
craft paper or newsprint and stamp Hanukkah symbols such as
a menorah or a dreidel onto the paper. Or draw symbols with
glue and sprinkle with blue and silver glitter.
* Make your very own beeswax candles for the family menorah!
* Make Star of David decorations for your home. Form a
triangle with 3 popsicle sticks and glue them together.
Form another triangle the same way. Glue the two triangles
together in the form of a Star of David. Draw squiggly lines
on the star with glue, and sprinkle with blue glitter if you
wish. Hang the stars around your home, using yarn or ribbon.
